Eric S. Brooks, 44, of Mansfield, Texas, formerly of Marshall, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the James West Hospice Center, in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born Sept. 4, 1966, at Paris, Ill., the son of Howard Brooks and Cheryl Kirby Brooks. He married Becky Morgan on June 10, 1995, in Marshall.
Surviving are his wife, Becky; a son, Gunnar Brooks; his mother, Cheryl Brooks of Paris; his father and stepmother, Howard and Diane Brooks of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Christine Hackney of Frisco, Texas, and Sherri Russell of Plano, Texas. He was preceded in death by a son, Gannon Brooks; and grandparents, Bob and Elsie Kirby, and Frederick and Hazel Brooks.
Eric was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a graduate of Christ for the Nations Institute, where he obtained a pastor's license in Youth Ministry. He was a member of The Gospel Lighthouse Church in Dallas. He enjoyed traveling, sports and hanging out with friends. One of Eric's most treasured and enjoyable times was traveling to Walt Disney World with his family.
Services in honor of his life will be 10 a.m. CDT Saturday, at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. Sixth St., in Marshall, with Pastor Gregg Headley officiating. Burial will be at Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
