He married Julia Plotner on 10 June 1866 in Hancock County, and they had William (1867), Cora (1869), Leonard (1871), James Merton (1873), Grace (1875), Blanche (1877), Lyman Clark (1879), Purl Victor(1880), and Luella (1882). Lyman was a farmer. He died from chronic nephritis at the age of 80 years 4 months and 10 days.
