d/ Johann & Johanna Sophia Hast Swanson
From the "Stromsburg Headlight", June 27, 1957:
"Mrs. A.B. Lind, daughter of John and Sophia Swanson was born September 11, 1866 at Swedona, Mercer County, Illinois and passed away at her home in Stromsburg June 18, 1957 at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 7 days.
In 1874 she moved with her parents to the Salemsborg community in Saline County, Kansas, where the family resided for a short time, after which they moved to the New Gottland community in Mcpherson, Kansas. Here she received her education in the pioneer schools, the Sunday and Parochial schools of the New Gottland Lutheran Church. She was confirmed in that church at the age of fourteen years by Pastor E.W. Erickson.
She was united in marriage in 1882 to Albert Benjamin Lind, and with him established a home in Moline, Illinois. This union was blessed with twelve children.
They moved to Kansas in 1885, where they resided a short time. They then traveled to Los Angeles, California by train where they made their home for several months. Returning to the midwest in 1888 they took up residence in Stromsburg where they established a permanent home. Mr. and Mrs. Lind united with the Swedish Methodist Church in Stromsburg where they were active members for many years. When that church merged with the English speaking Methodist church they transferred their activities to this church. Mrs. Lind has remained a faithful member throughout the years. She was a member of the Willing Workers class and a charter member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service.
Mrs. Lind's spiritual life was reflected in countless ways' in her gentleness, love and deep understanding of her family and prople, her concern for the welfare of others and in the atmosphere of her home, which for over half a century has been known for its gracious hospitality. The love of her children and grandchildren has been manifested through the years in frequent telephone calls, letters and visits from near and far.
The devoted care given her by her daughter, Bernice resulted in remarkable recoveries at the time of two major illnesses. During the past weeks other members of the family have assisted in the care of their mother and grandmother. Her vivid description of experiences encountered in ealrly life in a pineer country has left he children and grandchildren much valuable first hand information. Her mind remained clear and alert until the end.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Albert Benjamin, who passed away in 1922; sons, Elmer and George; daughters, Hulda, Grace, Gertrude and Effie.
She leaves a beautiful memory in her passing to her friends and to the surviving members of her family, who are: Mrs. F.O.
