Fort Plain Active Club Woman Dies
FORT PLAIN — Mrs. Amanda J. Spencer, 80. of 21 Mohawk St., Fort Plain, died early Wednesday morning at the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for 12 days. She had been in failing health for the past five months. Mrs. Spencer was born in Appleton. Wis., on Sept. 7, 1885, a daughter of Thomas G. and Jennie Sachett Miller. On Sept. 3. 1903. she was married to Floyd E. Spencer at Greenwood. N.Y., and had lived in the Fort Plain area for the last 40 years except for a few years in Amsterdam. Mr. Spencer died April 17, 1959. Affiliated with several organizations, at the time of her death; she was serving as the presiident of the Past Noble Grands' Club of Rainbow Rebekah Lodge of Fort Plain. She was a member of the Past Noble Grand Assn. of the Montgomery County District. Rainbow Rebekah Lodge 432 of Fort Plain, and was a past district deputy president of the Montgomery County District. She was also a member of the Fort Plain Methodist Church and the WCSC and Susannah Wesley Guild of the church, and Otsquago Chapter 297, Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include two sons, Milton Spencer, Orlando, Fla., and Stanley Spencer. Nelliston; a granddaughter. Miss Jean Spencer; and a sister. Mrs. Fada K. Peck of Amsterdam. Services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Swartz Funeral Home in Fort Plain, with the Rev. J. Russell Bales, Methodist Pastor, officiating. Burial will take place later in the spring at the Fort Plain Cemetery.
