"_Robert Brett was a grandson of Madame Brett. His father Robert Brett was a man of eminince [sic] and occupied a high position in society and held offices of trust in the county. He owned a large farm of 650 acres and built a stone house on the site of the house formally occupied by Mr. John C. Van Wyck now by the Miss Vandervoorts. In this house which was demolished in 1819 by Obadiah Bowne the owner at that time the first constitutional convention held a session in the Autumn of 1776. He likewise gave shelter to the Printer Samuel Louden & here it was that the first Constitution of the State which was adopted in Kingston 1771, was brought to be printed. _
