MARY VERNETTI
Mary Vernetti was born in a small town in northern Italy nearly 92 years ago. She was brought to America by her father and mother at an early age. She lived for awhile in Wisconsin and Illinois, but most of her life was spent in and around Williamson, Iowa.
Although Mary had little formal education, she had the kind of knowledge that comes to those who have the ability to help others and learn by doing so. Mary was always available to write a letter for someone that had even less education than she.
Mary cared for the sick, helped the poor, fed the hungry and assisted in any way she could in legal, medical, financial or domestic problems. But she wasn't a "do-gooder." She never interfered where she was not wanted and she always avoided hurting anyone's feelings.
The other side of Mary Vernetti'e life was her family. She was devoted to her husband, Dominic, and was proud of the record amount of coal he dug and loaded in one day and the giant bell peppers he raised in his garden.
She had four children and is survived by two daughters. She also helped to raise her sister's daughter.
Services were held Saturday, Aug. 27, 1983 at the Fielding Funeral Home with burial in the Chariton Cemetery. The Rev. Ronald Stein officiated.
