Married John Preston of Arkansas 15 Jan 1852 in Lexington.

Her family owned the huge Preston Plantation [Norfolk Plantation]. She purchased 3,300 acres of that plantation from her parents for $1. Her husband upon marriage inherited her land, but in 1859 she got it back into her own name Her and John built a home on her land which they called "The Home Place." They lived on the plantation part of the time and the rest in Louisville at The Galt House in downtown.

After the death of her only child she soon converted to the Catholic Church, against the wishes of her family. She was baptized in the Cathedral of the Assumption on 6 november 1862.

Before the end of the Civil War she established the Norfolk School, the first of its kind in the area. African Americans and white children were taught together.

She left by will her property to the Catholic Bishop of Louisville for a school or college for boys. Her family fought and got the will over turned. However, they continued to fight and the property was split up and sold in 1902.
