Born 17 MAR 1817 in North Carolina. (Source: 1880 US Federal Census).

Married Susan Ann Hayes on 01 NOV 1842 in Lumpkin County, Georgia; living in Lumpkin County through the 1850 census.

Moved to Towndsons District of Pickens County, Georgia by 1860.

He sided with the preservation of the Union and was against secession by the South. (Source: Southern Claims Commission, Claim #41251, Page #18)

Just prior to the Siege of Atlanta during the Civil War, marauding Federal troops from General Sherman's command obtained a horse from Hosea. Federal troops left his property heading west towards Cartersville, Georgia. (Source: Southern Claims Commission, Claim #41251)

Married Margaret Sarah Cowart on 20 DEC 1868 in Cherokee County, Georgia.

28 JUN 1871, submitted a claim with the Southern Claims Commission for reimbursement of $125 for a horse obtained by Union troops.

Only 32% (Source: Wikipedia) of these claims were approved, but his was, and in part based off his apparent families loyalty to the United States. His brother Reuben died with the US Army in Tennessee, and Reuben's widow Artemissa actually was a witness in the application.

The claim was approved in 1875, and $125 paid by the US Treasury.

Resided in Pickens County in the 1870 and 1880 censuses.

Died on 18 FEB 1899 in Georgia.

Fathered fourteen known children. Nine were with his first wife; and the other five with his second wife.
