Stanhope Eagle Newspaper dated September 6, 1893 "Lewis Batson, one of the old residents around Budd Lake, died at the home of his son in law, Lewis White in this town on Saturday morning last. He was about 83 years of age and the son of James Batson, who also live back of Budd Lake. Mr. Batson was a well to do farmer and was twice married, but was divorced from his second wife about two years since. He sold his farm to his son Stephen some time ago, and has been living with his children since. His funeral took place on Monday, and he was buried in Drakestown."
