John C. Allen was born September 1866, son of John Monroe Allen (1832-1880) and Arzilla T. Hancock (1840-1877). The 1870 and 1880 Federal Censuses state that John C. Allen was born in Arkansas but the 1900, 1910, and 1930 Federal Censuses state that he was born in Missouri.

The 1870 Federal Census for Barren, Arkansas (Independence County) shows John C. Allen, age 13, born in Arkansas; living with his father, John M. Allen, age 37, born in Tennessee; and his mother, Arzilla, age 30, born in Tennessee. Also living in the household were John C. Allen's siblings: Eliza F. Allen, age 13; Christopher Allen, age 10; Benjamin T. Allen, age 3; and Maggie Allen, age 1; all born in Arkansas except Eliza F., who was born in Tennessee.

The 1880 Federal Census for Barren, Arkansas (Independence County)shows John C. Allen, age 17, born in Arkansas; living with his widowed father, John M. Allen, a farmer, age 47, born in Tennessee. Allen, a farmer, age 33, born September 1866 in Missouri; and his wife, Mary I., age 21, born August 1878 in Texas. Living with them were two children: Evie C. Allen, age 4, born August 1895; and Randel Monroe Allen, age 1, born February 1899; both born in Indian Territory. Also living in the household was Mary's brother, George Moran, a farm laborer, age 23, born November 1876 in Texas.

Mary died November 21, 1906 in Ada, Oklahoma (Pontotoc County).

The 1910 Federal Census for Chickasaw, Oklahoma (Pontotoc County) shows John C. Allen, a farmer, age 44, born in Missouri. Living with him were five children: Evie C. Allen, age 13; Randel M. Allen, age 10; Jesse E. Allen, age 8; Sylvia E. Allen, age 7; and Arthur M. Allen, age 5; all born in Oklahoma.

The 1930 Federal Census for Webb, Oklahoma (Osage County) shows John C. Allen, a retired widower, age 74, born in Missouri. He was living with his son, Randel M. Allen, an oil field engineer, age 30, born in Oklahoma; and his wife, Thelma, age 22, born in Oklahoma. Also living in the household was John C. Allen's son, Arthur Marmaduke, an oil field laborer, age 25, born in Oklahoma.
