Tom B. Barger, 72, a resident of Harriman, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Mr. Barger was born October 19, 1938 in Wartburg. His family moved to Roane County and following his high school graduation from Harriman High School, class of 1956, he entered into the United States Marine Corp. While enlisted he served his country in the Marine Corp Flag Corp and Honor Guard at both the Arlington National Cemetery and the United States Capitol in Washington, DC.

Following his military discharge he enrolled at Carson Newman College and received his degree. He later entered into Pharmacy School at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and following his graduation he was employed as a pharmacist in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas moving back to Tennessee in 1992 and retiring from CVS Pharmacy.

Tom was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church, a caring, considerate and compassionate man who would help anyone he found in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Daisy Hembree Barger, by a son, Galen Barger, by brothers; Sam and C.R. Barger, by a sister-in-law, Mary Barger, who affectionately called him "Brother", and by a special friend, Betty Hendrickson.

He is survived by a niece, Teina Ingram and husband, Eddie, by nephews, Rickey Barger and wife, Joyce, Mickey Barger and wife, Pat, David Barger and Terry Barger all of Harriman, by 27 great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by several cousins, extended family members and special friends including his caregiver, Patsy Clawson.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 25, 2011 between the hours of 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steve McDonald officiating. Burial and graveside services with full military honors will follow at Roane Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Pine Ridge Baptist Church, Prime Timers, 151 Edwards Road, Harriman, TN 37748. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
