Uncle Carl was the son of Daniel and Marie Kohm Scherrer. His father was a Cooper in Manhatten and they lived across the street from the Lindberg Family, and they really felt their worry when their baby was kidnapped.

Uncle Carl lived 98 years, which is a long life by almost anyone's standards, but he never married and he had no children. He was a Private in World War II (1942-1943) and belonged to his local American Legion Post (1785 in Roxbury, NY).

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in New York City where he was a clerk.
