Montevideo Leader, February, 1899

—Died--Jacob Ostrander, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. C. Kent, Feb. 2, aged 92 years. Deceased has only been confined to his bed for about two weeks. He was an old pioneer, having moved to this state in 1855, and to the county in 1880. He leaves two daughters and two sons; Mrs. Alice Williams of Olmstead Co., O. T., Mrs. W. C. Kent of this place, Mr. Oscar Ostrander of Rush City and Mr. H. B. Ostrander of Montevideo. The funeral took place at the Baptist church last Sunday at 2 o'clock, Rev. F. E. R. Miller officiating. The Masonic order attended in a body. A beautiful floral offering was presented by that order and consisted of an upright square and compass at the base of which was a bank of ferns. The remains were interred in the cemetery here, with impressive masonic ceremonies.

The funeral of Mr. Jacob Ostrander, whose funeral was mentioned in our last issue, was held at the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon with a very appropriate sermon by the pastor, Rev. F. E. R. Miller. The Masons attended the services in regalia and also escorted the body to the cemetery where the beautiful Masonic burial service was given. Mr. Ostrander had been a Mason for 35 years and was greatly esteemed and respected by members of the order. A beautiful floral emblem, the Square and Compass, was placed upon his coffin by the fraternity here.
