Though many state Linas is the son of Ezekiel Sanford of Connecticut, sufficient proof does not exist to definitively make such statements. DNA results link Linas to Ezekiel, but due to the several generations between those tested and their forefathers - all that can be said with 100% accuracy is these two men shared DNA. This DNA testing does not prove Linas and Ezekiel were father and son, it proves there is some sort of relation between them. It is just as likely Linas is the son of a relative of Ezekiel's -- probably one from Pennsylvania, as Linas stated he was born there in 1772 on the 1850 Haywood County NC Census. The Great Wagon Road ran from Pennsylvania through Lincoln/Mecklenburg Counties NC through to Georgia. It makes a great deal more sense that Linas was from Pennsylvania and took this road down to Lincoln County where he stayed for many years. The earliest known record of Linas is the muster rolls for Lincoln County during the War of 1812. He can be found in Lincoln County NC census records from 1810-1840.

Mary Bealle has been claimed to be the name of Linas Sanford's wife for decades, but her last name has not been proven with proper documentation to my knowledge. As of right now, it is unclear if Linas was married more than once. Either way, his wife's name at the time of his death was Mary.

Several children are said to be Linas' offspring, they include:
Ezekiel Sanford (1805-Abt 1875)
Mary Sanford Bodkin (1809-Aft 1860)
John Rufus Sanford (1812-Bef 1860)
Robert S. Sanford (1812-1908)
Lyman Whitten Sanford (1814-1888)
William B. Sanford (1818-1908)
Mathias Montraville/Maxville Sanford (1821-Abt 1901)
Alexander Sanford (1825-1862)
Samuel Lemuel Sanford (1834-1899)
Margaret Sanford McFalls (1832-Aft 1860)
James Henry Sanford (1840-1915)
2 Unknown Daughters
*It is likely Samuel, Margaret, and James were actually grandchildren raised by Linas and Mary.

In the 1840s, Linas and Mary moved to Haywood County with their remaining unmarried children. In 1850, Linas appears in the Haywood County NC Census with wife, Mary, children: William B., Mathis, Samuel, and James -- and daughter in law, Elizabeth Darnell (wife of Mathis). A memorial stone has been placed in his memory at Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery, but I believe he is probably buried with William and James at the Upper Crabtree Cemetery.

*Please note the family name changed from Stanford to Sanford in the 1850s, with the majority of Linas and Mary's children dropping the "t" from the family name.
