Evelyn "Siddy" Spicer Agnew, 77, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a long illness. She was born Jan. 5, 1926, in Clinton, Ky. She moved to Tupelo in 1936. She attended Mississippi University for Women and graduated from the University of Mississippi. She was a homemaker and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Tupelo since 1936. She was coordinator of the Roadrunner Older Adults, and a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Altar Guild, Discovery Circle, United Methodist Women and the Long-Range Planning Committee. She was a lifetime member of the Junior Auxiliary, an original board member of the Tupelo Community Theatre and a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She served on the Tupelo Park and Recreation Commission from 1952-1963. She married Rutherford Todd Agnew Jr. on Sept. 17, 1949; he preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Tupelo with the Rev. Bill McAlilly officiating, and the Rev. John Sudduth and the Rev. Hershel Wiygul assisting. Burial will be in Bethany Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery at Brice's Crossroads. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her children, Sam Agnew of Tupelo, Walker Agnew and wife, Lisa, of Houston, Texas, and Evelyn Agnew Smith and husband, Wayne, of Sugar Land, Texas; her grandchildren, Haley Agnew of Tupelo, Walker Agnew Jr. and Ann Agnew, both of Houston, Texas, and Carter Smith, Taylor Smith and Hunter Smith, all of Sugar Land, Texas; nieces, Susan Spicer Hester and husband, Mitch, of Tupelo, and Nancy Jane Odom and husband, Joe, of The Woodlands, Texas, formerly of Tupelo; five other nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Carter Smith, Taylor Smith, Hunter Smith and Walker Agnew Jr. and great-nephews, Houston Stephens and Ferrell Spicer.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
