Ethel Virgie Shambaugh, age 85, of Berkeley Springs, WV died on Monday, July 4, 2016 at her home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.


Born April 3, 1931 in Brush Creek, PA she was the daughter of the late Charles Judson and Virgie Blanch Fischer Decker.


Ethel attended schools in Morgan County. She worked for 28 years as a bartender for the Berkeley Springs Moose Lodge 1483 and in recent years she worked as a cook for Warm Springs Restaurant, and worked for Fairview Orchards and Hepburn Orchards. Ethel was a member of the Berkeley Springs Woman of the Moose Chapter 1311 and Alderton-Dawson American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 60. She liked playing cards, reading, collecting Indian items, watching the game show network and enjoyed playing slot machines.


She is survived by her children, R. Shirley Jackson and husband Mike of Lancaster, PA, Charlotte L. Hoffman and husband Mike of Hancock, MD, Cynthia Ann Mazurek and husband Mark of Longview, TX, Steven Wayne Shambaugh of Douglasville, GA, sixteen grandchildren, Donnie Hobday of Inwood, WV, Angie Smith of Williamsport, MD, Brooke Cox of Buda, TX, Josh Shambaugh, Colorado Springs, CO, Brad Shambaugh of Towson, MD, Melissa Boswell of Falling Water, WV, Nicole Shambaugh of Canton, OH, Gabe Jackson of Falling Waters, WV Calvin Ronrad of Winchester, VA, Stephanie Caspillo of Watauga, TX, Kira Shambaugh of Cushing, OK, Brooke Shambaugh of Berkeley Springs, Steven and Quentin Shambaugh both of Baltimore, MD, Chris William and Lewis Shambaugh both of Oklahoma City, OK, two brothers, James Albert Decker of Aransas Pass, TX, Roy Norman Decker of Berkeley Springs, WV, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Lane Shambaugh on August 23, 1973, two sons, Michael Lee Shambaugh and Calvin Richard Shambaugh, one granddaughter, Deanna Shambaugh, two sisters, Geraldine Olive Kidwell, Linda Glendora DeShong, four brothers, Clyde Theodore Fischer, Lewis Judson Decker, Earl Douglas Decker and Forest Clem Decker.


Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV with Rev. Rodney C. Truax officiating. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery.


Family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to help defray funeral expenses to Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
