Passed away on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Alexandria, Virginia. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he was a resident of Alexandria, Virginia for 60 years. He recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary to his beloved, Bette Niedringhaus. He is survived by his sons, Donald Steven (Jackie) of Rock Hill, South Carolina and David Loren (Debra) of Fairfax, Virginia; grandchildren, Meghan Mason and Steven Niedringhaus, Brenna Prince and Kevin Niedringhaus; and great-grandson, Ethan McGinnis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines. He played professional baseball and retired as a U.S. park police officer. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, Virginia. Burial will follow at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital Hospice, Attn: Philanthropy Office, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
