On 4/07/1863 he was captured via the Confederate Army surrendering to General Grant's Union forces in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He remained a POW until 12/15/1863. He later served with Co. H, 14th consolidated Mississippi Regiment. They were known as the Lowndes Riflemen. Robert died of heart failure.
