Norma Jean Ferguson, 73 of Rockton, IL passed away Friday February 4, 2011 at her home peacefully and comfortably with her loving family by her side. Born Norma Jean Hill on October 19, 1937 in Lenoir City, Tn, she began her life just as she ended it, a proud and fiesty little light. As a pretty and fun-loving high school cheerleader, she never hestitated to test the devotion of her sweetheart and future husband, Tommy, by sending him on an uphill hike in the blazing heat to fetch her a chocolate malt. She and her twin sister, Pauline, made life in the little town of Lenoir City fun, interesting and a little mischevious. She settled down and married George Thomas Ferguson on October 4, 1958. A resident of Rockton, Il most of her adult life, she is fondly remembered by many as the sweetest and quickest bartender at Buffa's Supper Club and the Whiffletree. She even managed to win the friendliest bartender contest for which she was awarded a trip to Florida, luxury accomodations and a hot sports car which she vehemently, refused to drive. She was quick to laugh, could solve a crossword puzzle in record time and made the world's best chocolate cake. She is predeceased by her parents, Ralph Hill and Iva Lee Gray, husband George Thomas Ferguson and special cousin, Kathryn Lee Collins. She is survived by her everloving twin sister Pauline (Charles) Nobles, brother Ira Lee "Bunny" Hill, special cousins Edward "Red" Collins and Robert Edward "Eddie" Collins, daughters Mary Beth Ferguson, Tracy (Michael) Swanson, Shannon Ferguson, twin sons James and John Ferguson, grandchildren Ken, Amanda, Benjamin, Jana, Sean, Ian, Cooper, Hana, Tanner and Vesta; great-grandchildren Noah, Conner and James and numerous nieces , nephews and friends. If you'd take a package of cook and serve chocolate pudding, prepare it just like the box says, mix the hot pudding into a box of Devil's Food cake mix, pour that into a greased cake pan, top it with crushed pecans and chcolate chips (in that order or the nuts won't stay put), cook it according to the cake mix directions and serve it to your family tonight, in her honor, she'd get a real kick out of that. If you serve it warm with some whipped cream on top, she'd like it even better. Hang loose! We miss and love you Mom.
