Enlisted on 19 February 1864 at Oxford Township, Oakland County, Michigan at 39 years of age; mustered in on 25 February 1865, Company I, Michigan 7th Infantry Regiment as a Private; wounded on 9 May 1864 at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Spotsylvania County, Virginia; died of disease (general debility following chronic diarrhea and typhoid fever) on 13 July 1864 in the Satterlee General Hospital, West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia National Cemetery was historically a group of several cemeteries around the city. The Mt. Moriah Soldier's Lot in West Philadelphia was one of these cemeteries, which is why many Mt. Moriah burials appear among Philadelphia National Cemetery records.
