Wilson H. Himes Clarion County Obituaries, August 28, 2002
Wilson H. Himes, 88, of Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville, a former Kane resident for 45 years and more recently a 16-year resident of Clintonville, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002. Born in Cool Spring, he was the son of Michael and Laura Stahlman Himes. Mr. Himes held a variety of occupations in his lifetime. He was a salesman for Miles Kane Co. and managed the restaurant at the Stackpole Carbon Co. with his wife, Florence, under the direction of the Blind Association.
He was affiliated with the Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kane, where he remained active in the 1940s and 1950s. He was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir. Mr. Himes received the "Client of the Year" award in 1990, given by the Venango County Coordinated Services. He played the guitar, harmonica and drums in the Golden Tones Rhythm Band at the Scrubgrass Senior Center. Mr. Himes touched many lives, leaving an impression of a remarkable human being, a constant inspiration to others not to give up. He accepted challenges and as evidence of his faith in God, turned adversity into stepping stones and new friendships.
He was married May 30, 1934, to Florence B. Neiger, who died Jan. 16, 1993. Surviving are a son and his wife, Wilson S. and Anne Himes of Azle, Texas; twin daughters, Cynthia J. Hodges of Hemitage and Mrs. Sylvia Glans and her husband, Archie, of Cochranton; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also is survived by three sisters, Emma Burkett and Selah Parks, both of Punxsutawney, and Lizzie Cressley of Tarentum.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Himes was preceded in death by three brothers, John Himes, Harry Himes and Walter Clair Himes; and three sisters, Lula Byerly, Anna Smith and Hazel Young. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday in the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville.
Private family funeral services will be held Friday with the Rev. Lee Thompson, pastor of Grace Methodist Church of Clintonville, officiating. Interment will be in Beechwoods Cemetery, Jefferson County. Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango County.
