Born 1760, the son of British soldier John Trotter and his wife, Albany native, Anna Hogan. A Revolutionary War hero who became a General in the New York Militia serving through the War of 1812. He married Margarita Wendell in 1789 daughter of Hendrick and Maria Lansing Wendell. He was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church of Albany, NY and a pewholder.
The following information was submitted by Find A Grave member "Charlott Jones".
Supposedly, he was a drummer boy during the Revolutionary War. It is said that he bandaged a wounded Lafayete at the Battle of Brandywine in 1777. He was in the quartermaster department in 1781, then commissioned as ensign on the recommendation of Goose Van Schaick.
He did receive bounty land and became a General in 1812, so apparently he served in that war.
He was a noted mariner and skipper of a sloop on the Hudson River. He later was involved with the Wendell family (his father-in-law) and was active in various civic endeavors in Albany.
