Joseph McCamish grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. His father, Haws McCamish was a veteran of WWI. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served in the western US and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Admiral's Orderly Seaman First Class. Joe was educated at the University of Tennessee. He married Jessie Rhea Looper October 8,1948. They had three children together: Patty, Joe and Bruce. He was a gifted technical illustrator and worked in both the private and public sector during his lifetime. Joe was a great patriot, contributing his time and resources to causes such as the WWII Memorial in Washington DC (charter member.)He was a gentleman and a scholar of United States history. He loved his family and was a good friend to many.
