Business Executive Dies At 52
Don C. Kocher, 52, 711 Bristol, died in Memorial Hospital at 9:05 p.m. Saturday where he had been taken a few hours earlier. He had been ill for seven months.
He was a partner and manager of the Geo. T. Kocher Lumber Co. in Lima.
He was born in Willshire on Oct. 9, 1909, and has lived in the Elida and Lima area for 45 years.
He attended Elida High School and graduated in 1927 and attended Ohio Wesleyan at Delaware.
He became associated with his father, the late George T. Kocher, in the Geo. T. Kocher Lumber Co. during his high school years. Since his father's death in 1955, he has served as partner and manager in the company.
His son, George T. Kocher, became actively associated with his father in the Kocher Lumber Co. in 1957.
Survivors include his mother, Martha Engeler Kocher of 201 Sunnydale, Elida; wife, Mildred Brenneman Kocher; a son, George T. Kocher of 942 Rice; four daughters, Mrs. C. A. (Patricia) Gotway of Springfield, Ill., Mrs. Monte (Florence) Hall of Dayton, Miss Janelle E. Kocher, a student at Ohio University, Athens, and Miss Linda R. Kocher, at home; one sister, Mrs. E. S. (Marjorie) Sherow of Athens; four granddaughters. One son, David M., died Sept. 15, 1950, a brother, Frederic, died in 1929 and a sister, Miss Jeanette Kocher died in 1934.
He was a member of the First United Church of Christ E and R, Lima Rotary Club, former member of the board of directors of the Lima Area Association of Commerce, immediate past president of the District Retail Lumber Dealers Association, member of the board of directors of the Ohio Retail Lumber Dealers Association, member and past president of the Lost Creek County Club.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lewis Memorial Chapel of Chiles and Sons-Laman with Rev. Richard Vitz officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Allen County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
