Rep Charles Dalton Lamb

Charles Dalton "C.D." Lamb was born September 5, 1837 in Buck County, Pennsylvania. He arrived in Melrose area in 1860 and engaged in farming. He was also a member of the first board of Melrose Township, Stearns, Minnesota.

CIVIL WAR VETERAN
In 1861, C.D. was the first man from Melrose Township to join the Union forces. He served his country in the 3rd Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, Company I, during the Civil War. (note 1)

MARRIAGE and FAMILY
C.D. Lamb married Sarah A Fawcett on February 11, 1872 (Stearns Marr Lic: 27996515).

Sarah and C.D. Lamb had at least five little lambs:

- Coleman A Lamb (1880-1949)
- Charles A Lamb (1883-1943)
- Esther I Lamb (1883-1884)
- Velma M (Lamb) Stowe (1885-1974)
- Ruth J (Lamb) Nardell (1890-?)

All the children and spouses are buried in the Lamb Family Plot (East-D1) in Oak Hill Cemetery in Melrose, Minn. Mr. Lamb owned several 40 acre parcels of land in the northern sections of Melrose Township - north of the village of Melrose, Minn.

CIVIC MINDED
Being an extremely active man in civic affairs, Charles D Lamb also served as Postmaster of Longhill for 3 years. For 12 years he served as assessor of Melrose township.

MINNESOTA LEGISLATOR
In 1876 he was elected to served as the district representative to the House of the Minnesota Legislature.

DEATH and BURIAL
Rep. Charles D. Lamb died on September 1, 1905, just 4 days short of his 67th birthday. He is buried in the Lamb Family Plot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Melrose, Minn.

CHARLES D. LAMB, a native of Wrightetown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was born on the 5th of. September, 1837. At the age of eighteen years, he came to Wisconsin and remained in that State until 1860, when he moved to his present farm, which has since been the family residence.

On the 11th of October, 1861, he enlisted in Company I, of the Third Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, was taken prisoner at Murfreesboro, and on being exchanged, was ordered north; served through the Sioux campaign, and was wounded at the battle of Wood Lake.

Mr. Lamb was Assessor for twelve years, besides filling other important local offices. In 1876, he represented his district in the Minnesota State Legislature, and discharged his duties creditably to himself and his constituency.

C.D. Lamb was Postmaster for three years at the now decommissioned Post-Office of "Longhill." Mr. Lamb has practiced surveying to some extent since residing in this county.
