He had four children: George Otho Craft; Cora Bell Craft; Florence Hester Craft; and Mary Lenora Craft.
LEWIS J. CRAFT, 88, a pioneer resident of this city, died Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. C. Bateman. He had been in ill health for several years.
Mr. Craft was born in Bedford, Virginia, January 12, 1849, at the farm home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip N. Craft. He grew up in that community and was employed in a mine at Longdale Mine, Virginia, for thirty-three years before coming to Herington where he has lived for the past thirty-four years.
He was married in 1874 to Miss Narcissus Jane Montgomery at Longdale Mine. They were the parents of four children, three of whom are living. They are Mrs. W. C. Bateman and Mrs. W. G. Ballantyne of this city and George O. Craft of Lexington, Virginia. The other child died in infancy.
Mr. Craft worked as a stonemason when he first came to Herington and helped to build a number of stone buildings in this community. He retired from active work twelve years ago.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church. Rev. G.W. Nelson, pastor of the church, conducted the services and was assisted by Rev. Harry Colas, pastor of the Baptist church. Interment was in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
