Clauda Idella Avella, 90, of Hancock, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Homewood at Williamsport.

Born Oct. 5, 1918, in Oldtown, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Clarabelle Furstenberg Schaidt; and the widow of Clarence Edward Avella, who died in 1962.

She attended Oldtown School, was a homemaker, and formerly employed by Cel-anese in Cumberland. She was a member of the Hancock Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by five daughters, Sondra K. Avella, Sharon Lee Reed, Portia Raye McKee and Martha Dale Avella, all of Hancock, and Liberty Faith Merritt, of Pokomoke City; one son, Paul E. Avella, of Hancock; eleven grandchildren, and thirty great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Carder; eight brothers, Joseph Schaidt, Raymond Schaidt, Irving Schaidt, George Schaidt, Lee Schaidt, Norman Schaidt, Charles Schaidt, and Carl Schaidt.

The family will receive friends at the Hancock Assembly of God Church on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m. in the Hancock Assembly of God Church, North Pennsylvania Ave., Hancock, with the Rev. Donald Preston officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hancock Assembly of God Mission Fund, North Pennsylvania Ave., Hancock, MD 21750.
