Virgil J. Blanchard, 78, a retired rural mail carrier and farmer, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, at this home on route one, Berrien Center, after an illness of two years.

Born Sept. 3, 1879 in Berrien Township, he had lived in the community all his life. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Rural Mail Carriers Association, Cass County Historical Society, Berrien Center Grange and the Michigan Archaelogical Society.

Survivors include his widow, Bertha; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Trattles and Mrs. A.B. Miller, both of Niles, and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Kiger-Halbritter Funeral Home where . .[illegible]. . p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Garrell Flewelling of the Central Christian Church, Decatur, Ill. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.
