Hartwin John Magnuson, age 88, went to be with our Lord on Feb. 16, 2004, in Cornerstone Hospital in Austin, with his family by his side. He was a lifetime farmer and rancher in the Manda area and was a WW II veteran in the 612 Tank Destroyer Battalion.
Hartwin was born Nov. 11, 1916, in the Carlson Community to Swen August Magnuson and Lillian (sic) Amanda Johanson, who immigrated from Sweden in the early 1900s. He was the eighth son of nine boys.
He was married to Irene Larson on Dec. 10, 1943 to which three children were born; Marion, Boyd and Loyd Magnuson.
He was preceded in death by one son, Loyd, his parents and seven brothers.
Hartwin is survived by his wife Irene, of sixty years, daughter Marion; son Boyd and wife, Diane; daughter-in-law Karen; one brother, Edwin; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren.
Family visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Elgin Funeral Home, 712 N. Ave. C. in Elgin, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 401 E. 8th St., Elgin, Texas
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Heart Association or St. Peters Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
