James Duncan Anderson was a Civil War veteran, enlisting in Danville, Vermilions County, Illinois, July 3, 1861, and mustering in St. Louis, Missouri, August 29, 1861, with Co. F, 35th Illinois Infantry, at the rank of private. Assigned to nursing duty September 26, 1861, and still reported in that capacity on February 28, 1862, and often served hospital duty thereafter. Wounded in the left side of the neck at Rocky Face Ridge at Dalton, Georgia, May 9, 1864. Honorably discharged with his company in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois.

He married Mary Elizabeth Partlow November 3, 1868, in Vermilion County, Illinois. Children: Margaret (b. 1869 - married a Bass), Grace Rae (b. 1877), Mary Rachel (b. 1879), James Quincy (b. 1883), John Lee (b. 1886), George Steven (b. 1890), and Frield Edward (b. 11/26/94). James died in Armstrong, Illinois, of cerbral meningitis at age 57-4-15. In 1909, Mary lived in Tillman County, Oklahoma, but at her death lived in Newberry Township, York County, Pennsylvania, which is how I came upon her and James. (Bio provided by Dennis Brandt)
