Charles A. Erikson, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon K. Erickson, Sandstone, passed away at the Pine County Memorial Hospital at Sandstone Thursday morning, April 25, after a long illness.
Charles was born at Duluth, Minnesota, on August 31, 1947, and attended the Woodlands Junior High School in Duluth before moving to Sandstone. He graduated from Sandstone High School on June 2, 1965, and was a sophomore at the University of Minnesota at Duluth when he had to terminate his schooling, due to illness. He was very active in Boy Scout work and earned the Eagle rank in the Boy Scouts at Sandstone with Troop No. 183 in August, 1965. He was a staff member of the Lake Superior Camp during the summers of 1963, 1964, and 1965. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve Construction Battalion Unit at Duluth and received an honorable discharge after 30 days of active duty. He was scheduled for two years of active duty.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Erikson of Sandstone; five sisters, Bonnie, Shirley, Diane, Linda and Kristi and one brother, Robert, all at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Douglas Richardson of Duluth and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Erikson of Duluth and great grandfather, a. B. Dennett of Kansas City, MO.
Funeral services were held at the United Church of Christ (Congregational) at Sandstone on Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Victor Browne officiating. Music was rendered by Karen Lindgren and Donna Feyma with Mrs. Arthur H. Larson as organist. Casket bearers were: Raymond Klein, Robert Marchand, John Gulland, John Benson, Kenneth Anderson, Ronnie Anderson, Donnie Feyma and Ronnie Troolin. Burial was made in Sandstone Spring Park Cemetery. Larson Funeral Home, Sandstone, in charge of arrangements.
