He married his wife Margaret in Illinois on 16 Sep 1832. in 1853, he crossed the Oregon Trail, arriving in the Oregon Territory on 01 Sep 1853, and settled a claim in Linn County on 25 Sep 1853.
James Cyrus, age 45, was originally buried on 13 November 1857 in Lone Mountain (later Laurel Hill) Cemetery in San Francisco, California.
His remains were among those exhumed from the now-defunct Laurel Hill Cemetery and re-interred in the Laurel Hill Community Vault at Cypress Lawn circa 1939-1942.
