"THORNTON, THOMAS C.
Born one of eight sons to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Thornton, on December 22, 1858; died in December 1894 in Angelica. He received a good education and also became a bookkeeper. In April 1878 he began working in the Hawley & Hooker Hardware Store, with whom he remained as an assistant until September 19, 1882, then becoming partner with Mr. Hooker. Later, Mr. Hooker left the business in care of Mr. Thornton. Mr. Thornton became one of the most popular citizens in the town. He was active as a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was married to Miss Ida May Post on June 22, 1886. Four children were born to this union: Regina Sue, Mary Lucille, William Andrus and Dorothy May. He was stricken by inflammatory rheumatism from which he had previously suffered, and finally the disease went to the brain, and Thomas went into a coma until the end came."
