Asa Ellsworth James, 76, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Everett Keyes, Camden rural route, at 3 o’clock Monday morning after a lingering illness. He has ninety-three direct descendants. The son of Andrew and Harriett Brown James, he was born in Carroll county on March 14, 1869, and was married to Lucy Frick, who died on Sept. 29, 1940. Survivors include seven children, Mrs. Omer Watson, Laingsburg, Mich.: Mrs. Charles Timmons, Idaville; Mrs. Harriett Quay, Lansing, Mich.; Mrs. Leo Wilson, Bringhurst; Mrs. Everett Keyes, Camden rural route; Frank, Holt, Mich.; and Woodrow, Wabash; 33 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mr. James was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Church of the Brethren where final rites were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Clarence Sink was in charge and burial was made in Maple Lawn cemetery. Leiter funeral home of Flora was in charge.
