MAYODAN — Louise Winter Shaffer Vaden, 83, of 903 West Jefferson Street, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at Morehead Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mayodan Municipal Cemetery.

Mrs. Vaden was born July 25, 1927, in Stokes County, to the late Monnie and Clemmie Nelson Shaffer. She was a past employee of Washington Mills, Inc., Gem Dandy, Inc., and Eanes. Louise was a Stanley Home Products dealer for 50 years. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by half-brothers, Lincoln Shaffer, Aten Shaffer, Pete Shaffer and Kelsie Biggs and half-sisters, Lola Harris, Lydia Hodge, Ruby Goad, Sudie Hodge and Hessie Hodge.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Reuben Steven Vaden; sons, Steve Vaden, Jr., and wife, Brenda, and Randy "Vada" Vaden and wife, Janice, all of Mayodan; brother, Ray Shaffer and wife, Margie, of Summerville, FL; grandchildren, Meredith Vaden Price and husband, Kevin, and Jennifer Vaden Holt and husband, Harold and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Price, Brady Price and Natalie Holt.

Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
