James (Jim) Luke Wheeler, 70, of Valdosta died on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born in Wilsonville, Alabama on May 21, 1940 to the late Benjamin Luke and Ruthie Fay Stone Wheeler and has been a resident of this area since 1960.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served for eight years and was a retired truck driver for Roadway Express. He was also a part-time instructor at Wiregrass Technical College. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and was a huge University of Alabama football fan. Roll Tide!!!

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Cheryl Wheeler of Valdosta; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ken and Michelle Wheeler of Lake Park and Mark Wheeler of Valdosta; two grandsons, Caleb Michael Wheeler and Roman James Wheeler both of Lake Park; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Frank Arnold and a niece and her spouse, Kaye and Roger Parker all of Sylacauga, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Jim Wheeler will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Robertson officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
