James was born on March 1, 1922, son of the late Charles and Opal (Stenson) Morris in Gilbertsville.
Upon graduating from high school, James worked at Scintilla in Sidney for two years as a machinist: he took great pride in his role in creating ignition systems for PT Boats.
On Dec. 24, 1944, he married Mianda "Tillie" Wilson in Leonardsville. She predeceased him on Aug. 8, 2002.
In 1950, his family purchased a dairy farm, which he worked on until 1986. Over the years, James also drove school bus for Oneonta and Gilbertsville-Mount Upton schools, as well as drove truck for Dairylea. Most people would remember him, however, for his role as a driver and mechanic for Oneonta Bus Lines, where he worked for over 30 years.
James loved taking the trips, and enjoyed the people. His favorite trip was the Rotary Exchange 30-Day Cross Country Trip.
