The Rev. Dr. Neil T. Eckstein was commissioned an Ensign in the USNR in 1943 in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. He served in the Pacific and commanded landing craft during the invasion of islands near Okinawa in 1945. He received his MA and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a professor of English, an author and translator. He helped to found the Winchester Academy, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni award by St. Olaf College in 1988.
