Luther P. Allen, in his 1901 book, The Genealogy and History of the Shreve Family from 1641, presented a chapter on pages 121-146, entitled Descendants of Samuel Shreve and Sophia _____. The following is transcribed from page 121

47. iv. SAMUEL SHREVE, the fourth child and second son of Caleb Shreve and Hannah Thorn, was b. Sept. 15th, 1747, in New Jersey; m. Sophia ______. He d. in Fayette Co., Penna.
Samuel Shreve's family, six sons and one daughter, moved to Brown Co., Ohio, before 1820. His son James, in 1831, returned to Venango Co., Pa. The others remained in Ohio, married, and all had large families. Samuel Shreve served in the Revolutionary Army. His children were born in Pennsylvania.

1811; d. Russellville, O., Sept. 28, 1854.

ango Co., Pa., about 1811; d. Venango Co., Pa.,

Will of Samuel Shreve
[8 Oct 1818]

[Note: The following is transcribed from a photocopy of the handwritten
transcript entered in the will book, rather than a photocopy of the
original will, and has the title Will of Samuel Shreve, as above, and is
signed Samuel Shreve, but the first line contains the name James, with a
"?" over it, Shreve.]

In the name of Almighty God Amen. I [James?] Shreve of Washington
Township Fayette County and State of Pennsylvania being weak as to bodily
health but of a sound mind and a disposing memory do make and ordain this
my last will and Testament. I request that at my disolution that my Body
may be interred in a decent and Christian like manner. As respects my
wordly effects which it has pleased the supernatural power to bless me
with: I order my Executors to dispose of or distribute in the following
manner viz: first I order that all my just debts and funeral charges be
carefully paid out of the first money that may come into the hands of the
administrators of my Estate. Second I order the said Administrators to
lease out my lands at their discretion and the proceeds thereof to be
given to my wife [Elinor?] yearly during her natural life for her support
and the support of my youngest daughter Rebecca so long remains single.
Also all my personal estate which may be remaining - after my just debts
and legal charges are paid shall be left in the hands of my said wife for
her convenience during her natural life. The said charges includes the
legacies herein after mentioned. Thirdly I order that my Daughter Rebecca
shall have the sum of fifty nine dollars in one year afther my decease to
make her portion equal to which my other daughters have received. Fourth
after the decease of my dear wife I order all my real and personal estate
to be sold at the discretion of the administrators, and the [ ??? ]
proceeds to be divided as follows.

To my sons John Jonah Samuel Caleb, Thomas and James each [three?] dollars and to my daughters Ann Mackelfish
Sophia Boice Elizabeth Sparks Jane MKinsay and said Rebecca Shreve all
the remainder of my estate share and share alike.

Fifth I hearby empower
and request my said Administrators to make and execute lawful deeds of
conveyance for lands or lots of ground to all those who I have sold to
who have not got their titles agreeable to the contracts with them.

Lastly I hereby nominate and appoint my trusty and well beloved friends
Samuel Cope and John Shreve to be my Executors to this my last will and
Testament revoking all wills by me heretofore made. witness my hand and
seal this eight day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and eighteen.

for the probate of wills and granting Letters of Administration in and
for said County personally came Joseph Shreve and on his solemn
affirmation did declare that he saw the Testator sign the foregoing as
and for his last will and Testament when of disposing mind that he signed
the same as a witness thereto in the presence of the Testator that no
undue influence had been used or later will made by him to his knowledge
or belief. Given under my hand & seal of said office the ninth day of
November Anno Domini 1818

signing witness and on his solemn oath with hands uplifted declared to
the same purport.
