Sister of CSA Brigadier General James Byron Gordon she was born at Oakland the homeplace of the Gordon family near where the Wilkes General Hospital now stands daughter of Nathaniel Gordon and Sarah H. Gwyn. Active in both Wilkesboro and later North Wilkesboro Presbyterian churches.
Studied at Salem Academy for two years and married A W Finley March 30, 1842.
