He was born in Effingham Co.il., the son of Charles & Sarah Dean Adams. His mother died when he was 2 weeks old and he was taken in by the Samuel Houston family, parents of the late Martin Houston.
He came with them to Fayette Co. in 1848, when he was 3 years old.
He m 26,May 1867, Julia Hammond and they were parents of 14 children.
His wife died 18 Nov 1921 and 8 of the children preceded him in death.

For many years he kept a daily log in which he recorded the temperature, rainfall, etc. and shortly before his death he told his granddaughter, Mildred Hackleman [Mrs Burr] that she could have it.
