John Adam, 104, of Winner, South Dakota passed away on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Long Term Care Facility.

John Adam was born Feb. 19, 1904 in Boyd County, NE to George and Rose (Fisher) Adam. John moved with his family to St. Charles, SD. In 1909, when John was five years old, his family moved to Tripp county, South Dakota, which is where they homesteaded. John attended rural elementary school at Grand Valley School near Colome, SD.

John was baptized on Apr. 1, 1904 in Naper, NE. He was confirmed on Mar. 24, 1918 at Hope Lutheran Church south of Colome. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church most of his life.

John was united in marriage to Hulda Hauf on Apr. 9, 1929 in Colome, SD. John and Hulda lived near the family homestead for awhile, and then in March of 1938, they moved on the family homestead which is where they farmed and ranched their entire life.

His wife Hulda passed away Nov. 21, 1982. In August of 1997, John moved into the Golden Prairie Manor. While at the Golden Prairie Manor, he celebrated his 100th birthday on Feb. 19, 2004. Over one hundred friends, relatives and special dignitaries were present.

John enjoyed playing cards with special friends and visiting with neighbors.

John is survived by one nephew, Don Adam of San Jose, Calif., and one great niece, Lori Adam and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hulda in 1982; one brother William and his wife Elizabeth; one niece, Marilyn; and one great nephew, Kevin.
