Fredrick Clifton "Sonny" Shores, 70, of Christiansburg, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, after a two year battle with cancer. He was born in North Wilkesboro, N.C., on March 18, 1940, to the late Donald Clifton and Cora Lee Gambill Shores. He was preceded in death by a half sister, Mildred Shores Adams. He served with the Army 82nd Airborne and retired from the United States Army National Guard and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department. He was a life member of the Christiansburg Life Saving Crew; a member of McDaniel Lodge No. 86 AF&AM in Christiansburg; the Scottish Rites Bodies of Roanoke; and the Kazim Shriners of America in Roanoke. Fred loved to hunt and travel. He is survived by his wife, Carol Jean Creasey Shores; a son, James Clifton Shores and wife, Vickie; daughters, Vicki Lynn Shores Perkins and husband, Stan, and Michele Leigh Shores Gerhard and husband, Craig; grandchildren, Daniel Clifton Shores, Laura Paige Shores, Nathaniel (Nate) Perkins, Brock Steven Gerhard, and Taylor Grace Gerhard; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Hylton officiating. Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Shiloh Cemetery, Sparta, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106-A, Roanoke, VA 24018. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening, March 18, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg, Va., 540-552-3211.
