Gloria K. Egger Allen, 85, of North Platte, passed away February 8, 2011 in McAllen TX. She was born November 7th 1925 in Green Bay Wisconsin to Lloyd and Catherine Forrest DeGraff. Gloria graduated from Green Bay East High School 1943. She worked for Bell North in Green Bay and Chicago. During World War II Gloria lived in Washington D.C. and worked for the OSS (CIA) where she made secret decoders for the military. In 1955 she moved to Denver, CO where she was secretary for Gates Rubber Company. Gloria met her husband in Denver in 1958. Gloria married Ilon E. Egger in Columbus Nebraska in April 1959. She worked for Dales Manufacturing and J.C. Penny's and finished her career working for the State of Nebraska of migrant workers and retired in 1989. In 1990 Gloria married Vernon D. Allen in North Platte, Nebraska in 1990. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior where she sang in the choir and for many years. Gloria was an associate member of the Sisterhood of the Nativity. She volunteered for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in North Platte and was an avid flower gardner. She loved to travel throughout the United States. Gloria and Vernon enjoyed spending the winter months for over the last twenty years in McAllen TX, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include, her husband, Vernon Allen; her two children, Tara (Robert) Lockman of Cheyenne, WY, and Rodd (Sally) Egger of Denver, CO; step children, Terri (Stan) Timm of Omaha, NE, Ken (Cheryl) Allen of Castle Rock, CO, Bob (Karen) Allen of North Platte, NE, Randy Allen of North Platte, NE, Merri (John) Brownell of Omaha, NE; Gloria's grand children, Nick and Cortney Lockman, Alexandra Egger. Vernon's grand children; Mike, Mark, Matthew Timm, Kristin Shockey, Cammy Smith, Ken and Matthew Allen, Amy Allen, Charlie and Cody Allen, John, Eryn and Jill Brownell and 21 great grand children.
She was preceded in death by her parents,Lloyd and Catherin DeGraff; her 1st husband Ilon E. Egger, and brothers: Lloyd DeGraff Jr. and Harley DeGraff.
A memorial has been established in her name for the American Diabetes Association and to the Episcopal Church or Our Savior North Platte, NE.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 19th 2011 at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior at 11:00am with Father Jeffery Nelson officiating.
Visitation will be from Wednesday through Friday 9am to 9pm, with the family receiving friends on Friday from 7pm to 8pm.
Burial ceremony will be held at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery on Monday February 21st at 11:00am.
