Funeral Rites Sunday For Mrs. R. J. Baylis, a pioneer citizen of Marion County, died at 10:30 Friday night following a long illness. She was 87 years of age.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the First Methodist Church in Columbia with interment taking place in the Columbia Cemetery. Rev. Norman U. Boone will officiate. The body will be at the Colonial Funeral Home until time for the services.
Mrs. Baylis was Sarah Rebecca Warren, daughter of the late John Ira Warren and Susan Warren, among the early settlers of Marion County.
She and her late husband owned and operated the Baylis Hotel in Columbia for more than fifty years.
She is survived by seven children.

George W. Baylis and Mrs. M. G. Kingsberry of Hattiesburg,
(Mr. Baylis is a patient at Methodist Hospital where he is recovering from Pneumonia.)
Mrs. D. P. Kimbrough of Grand Prairie, Texas.
Eugene E. Baylis,
Mrs. L. B. Broome,
and Mrs. Byrd B. Francis, all of Columbia.
Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. A. J. Adams of Bogalusa, Mrs. M. G. Graham of Sandy Hook and a brother, W. E. Warren of Sandy Hook.
Mrs. Baylis was a life-time member of the Columbia Methodist Church; she had served as a steward and was a leader there in Sunday School and the Women's Society.
