Marion Clinton Darby, 83, of Paradise, CA, passed away at his home on March 14, 2011, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born November 17, 1927 in Linden, Idaho, moving to Paradise in 1952.

Marion served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945-1948 in China, Guam, and Mare Island, and operated Reed Shell Station with his brother-in-law, Allan Reed, in Paradise. He spent 50 years in fire fighting, starting as a teenager during WWII at fire lookouts in California. After serving in the Marines, Marion worked seasonally for the California Division of Forestry, and served as a firefighter in Paradise for 35 years. He spent several summers after retirement working for the U.S. Forest Service at the Turner Mountain Lookout near Mineral, CA. He enjoyed traveling to national and state parks throughout the Western U.S. and was active for many years in the Paradise Gem and Mineral Society.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia; daughters, Susan Davis (Fred), Linda Darby (Fred Downey), and Nancy Barnes (Mike); his sister, Maybelle Reed; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
