Dorothy Bruce Byrd, age 85 of Loganville, passed away March 13, 2011 with family and friends at her side. Mrs. Byrd was a retired teacher of 32 years with the Gwinnett County School System, and she was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Between, Ga. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10 a.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church in Between with Dr. Loretta Altman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Johnny H.J. Byrd; her brother, John Bruce; and her sister, Kathryn Ellington.
She is survived by her brother and his wife, David W. and Johnnie Bruce of Cookeville, TN; sister, Beth Holcomb of Jonesboro; sister-in-law, Fredda Bruce of Jasper; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; special friends, Lucinda Chandler, Linda Warren, Tara DeBose, Carretha Williams, Paula Johnson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, GA.
