Mrs. Emily Heath Rice, wife of Fred Rice of Hector, passed away of Friday, September 20th at the home of her cousin, Mrs. Jesse Sample of Ithaca, where she was convalescing from a recent major operation. Her sudden death was caused by a heart attack. Mrs. Rice was 72 years of age. After having spent the greater part of her life in Newfield, she, with her husband and son, moved to Hector in November, 1939.
Although a member of the Methodist Church of Newfield, she was active in the Women's Missionary Society of the Hector Presbyterian Church. A woman of sterling character and congenial personality, Mrs. Rice leaves many friends, in both Newfield and Hector communities.
Beside her husband, she leaves one son, Roger of Hector, a brother, Bert O. Heath of Rochester and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held at the Allen Funeral Chapel in Newfield, on Monday, September 23rd at 3:00 p.m., with the Rev. Earl Noyes of Newfield and the Rev. O. D. Stewart of Ithaca officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery at Newfield.
