David Hatch Meets Death While Working Near Sumas.
David Hatch lost his life accidentally while at work on the road near Sumas Saturday afternoon. A blast of powder was lighted by fuse and the workmen ran to what was considered a safe distance. A large piece of rock was hurled high in the air and fell down and struck Mr. Hatch on the skull, crushing it in such a manner as to cause instant death. Coroner Gifford was notified of the accident at 10 o'clock Saturday night.

The funeral services of David Hatch of Clearbrook, were conducted at the Fry home near town on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Hatch was engaged with other men in blasting stumps on the Clearbrook road. The men had run a distance from the blast, but a large root struck Hatch on the head breaking the skull.
