On August 1, 1940, Mae married William Clayton "Jake" Cavin at the Methodist Church in Wakita. To this union two children were born, Ethel Jean on January 27, 1948 and James Cecil on April 7, 1953. Together they built their home west of Wakita. She was a resident of Wakita for 86 years.
Mae was a true homemaker, tending large gardens, cooking meals for farm hands and milking the cows. She was a member of the Fairview Church until it closed in December 1994. Mae was active in the ladies aide at the Fairview church and served on the election board.
In 1975, Clayton suffered a stroke and Mae cared for him at home until his death in October 1983. After Clayton's death, Mae enjoyed going to local high school basketball and football games, visiting the senior citizens and taking bus trips.
In 2002 Mae made the decision to move into the apartments at the Wakita Community Health Center, where she carried out her days of playing bingo and participating in church services.
Mae is preceded in death by her parents, John and Leatha Tuttle; brother, Cecil Tuttle; sister, Blanche Hendricks; and her husband, Clayton Cavin.
Mae left this earth and went home on March 15, 2011 at the age of 96 years, 6 months and 24 days.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Ethel Hamilton and her husband, Mark of Anthony; her son, Jim and his wife, Shirley of Wakita; grandchildren: Brian Hamilton, Shannon Ummel (Gary), Mandy Whitely (Wayne), Jessica Gillespie, Stefani Ferguson (Joel) and Seth Schubert (Dustin); great grandchildren: Hailey, Jaci, Garrison, Jacob, Liam, Luke, Lily, Jaxon, Cooper, Brylie, Mallory, Kevin and Griffin; many other relatives and friends.
